About Us

After many years of documenting and recording whales, dolphins and porpoise in our BC waters, Whales and Dolphins BC was started in 2010 to raise public awareness about cetaceans in our waters. The site continues as a part of our conservation organization Wild Ocean Whale Society (WOWs) providing a valuable, collaborative platform for whale watching boats, researchers and the public to connect with ocean species by contributing cetaceans sightings.

Wild Ocean Whale Society (WOWs) is a Registered Canadian Charity (#811710938RR0001)

OUR MANDATE:

  • To raise public awareness, respect and enthusiasm for the protection and welfare of our coastal wildlife and marine ecosystems through information and education.
  •
  • To facilitate marine mammal research in BC by establishing a sightings database with cetacea movements, behaviour, IDs, etc.
  •
  • To protect the environment for the benefit of the public by conserving ecosystems and wildlife through our rescue and response program including locating, tracking and monitoring entangled animals using our sightings data and reports.
